...for those who wonder where he and his Westones are, he seems to be doing movie soundtracks. My kids watched a Disney POS called "G Force" - about secret agent guinea pigs - and there in the credits was TR's name!!

I suppose any work is good work; I didn't listen closely to the soundtrack, nor did I watch it closely - serendipity made me look up as the titles rolled through!

I think a fair few guitarists do that kind of thing nowadays, Steve Conte from the New York Dolls dabbles in Anime soundtracks, whether any of them feature Guinea Pigs or not I couldn not say .

Nuno Bettencourt did the 2008 soundtrack for Smart People. Good movie, great soundtrack (I actually bought the movie and the soundtrack because I liked the music in it so much). But then again I could listen to Nuno play Mary Had a Little Lamb and like it.

I liked, and still like, Extreme before they made it mega-big - stuff like "Mama, don't wanna go to school" - but then Nuno got a little bit "Look at me, look at me!!" for my liking! Very talented player, no question, just a bit busy.....

But you're right about all the old rockers doing movie work - fab example is "Still crazy" which has major parts of the soundtrack written by Mick Jones, the guitarist from Foreigner. Great movie...

Rabin has done about 30 movie soundtracks since leaving Yes in 1994.

He's tight with Jerry Bruckheimer and does lots of Bruckheimer's movies.

Rabin also wrote the theme to the NBA on TNT.

His 'Remember the Titans' theme is used lots of places, like the Beijing Olympics, and Obama's inauguration.

He is one of my favorite guitarists - and the reason I am interested in Westone guitars.

Interestingly, most of the movies that he does soundtracks for are pretty bad movies. But some of the soundtracks are pretty good. His best soundtracks are probably Deep Blue Sea and Remember the Titans (not available commercially - but you can buy Chinese bootlegs on Ebay). But a couple of my favorites are The One and American Outlaws.

He has received 12 BMI awards including one recently for Owner of a Lonely Heart's 3 millionth playing.

One of my favorite Nuno pieces to play on guitar is Cupid's Dead. It's a blast - fast, hot, funky, rockin'! Check out some of his instructional video footage on youtube.

Lots of rockers make movie soundtracks/scores. Stewart Copeland and Jimmy Page come to mind.

If you like Nuno then you have to give schizophonic a listen (if you already haven't). It was his only solo album (not with a band) and every track is worth hearing. One of my all time favorite albums. He also did some great work with mourning widows, population 1, and dramagods. Some of his dramagods stuff ended up on the newest extreme album saudades de rock, all good stuff. I hear he is now touring with Rihanna (WTF) who could see that coming.

Hey it's good work!! Tony Banks the reknowned keyboardist from Genesis(who was the back bone of Genesis and wrote most of their tunes) has been doing movie soundtracks since before their last 4-5 albums.... session work is more profitable and it's easier on the body that's for sure... ask Lee Ritenour, or Tommy Tedesco (well you can't ask him now he died)...it's just not the "fun" of touring, but even that wears thin.. unless your Keith Richards.

Oh, yes - don't get me wrong; if you can make a living from music then you're doing OK and yes; touring and live gigging can get very tiresome.... but there's a juice you get from playing live to a cold audience and getting 'em boogying that you can't get in the studio, I reckon....

Yes, I have Schizophonic, Mourning Widows, and Population 1, but not Dramagods.

I have Saudades de Rock and to me it sounds like old Extreme (pretty good).

Do you have Satellite Party (Nuno and Perry Farrell among others)?

Why would you disrepect anyone doing soundtracks? Considering the creative process, and the audience you can play to, I would consider it a dream job. Gigging may be fun, but it doesn't pay well and doesn't contribute to a normal consistent life (ie one with family).
I suppose I just wasn't aware that on the totem pole of music, that soundtrack work could be lower than playing live.
As a classically trained musician, I can only dream of writing a soundtrack. Any fool can get on stage (and I have!).
