Re: Westone thunder 1A with washburn wonderbar + original parts
One setup sheet coming up.
To my knowledge there´s no difference between the OEM Washburn Wonderbar and the aftermarket Shifts.
They are indeed the same thing.
However,i´ve so far seen minor differences what seems depending on vintage.
These differences being how the rollers are fixed to the piedestals and further how these are set to the base.
Between me and a good friend we´ve got three of them on various Washburns and they honestly kick ass.
Absolutely fantastic trems,in fact the only ones that truly WORK.
(Did i say that?)
Sturdy to the build.Complex to setup however.Strikes at least me as being one of them things in life that are downright indestructable.
Over engineered to say the least...
Trem arms of these are often missing though.
The winding for the bung is a one off speaking of which(trem arm bung that goes into the bridge)
It´s M9*1mm.
Trem arm per se can be replaced by a generic floyd counterpart.

Anytime.
Seriously though.
Look into that trem.
Spend some time with it.
You wont look back.

Re: Westone thunder 1A with washburn wonderbar + original parts
the trem is great - i got some time with it today. only issue i had was with the lcoking nut which has obviously threaded out at some point as it has coil inserts in it for floyd style screws... and it only had 3 of the 6 bolts
luckily a kahler string lock fits 2 of the 4 screw holes so i put one of them on temporarily and its working better now... i have a few old kahlers here too so plenty of parts like this. The wonderbar was really the final trem i needed for my 'collection' (not all owned, but spent enough time with to understand exactly how they work and compare) since i did a steinberger GP with transtrem rebuild and set-up last year.

I´ve overhauled locking nuts on occasion of that exact reason.
Normaly,depending on model,they´re either M3 or M4.
What i´ve done at least is chuck the needed number of nuts in the lathe and turn them circular.
Then drilled the locknut piece out.
Turn them so they´re just oversize for the drilled hole and install them pressfit with some loctite.
Works like a charm.
Then there´s always Helicoil, but seing the dimensions involved...you don´t exactly use an M3 kit everyday rendering that a more expensive solution.

Re: Westone thunder 1A with washburn wonderbar + original parts
well i have had my fun with the wonderbar and removed it from the westone to concentrate on getting that back stock. I think i will probably sell the trem on now, i like it a lot but i am not totally sure when i am going to get chance to build a guitar that will suit it - quite a few other personal projects on the go and even more for paying customers to get finished!!!
started cleaning up the westone hardware and its starting to come up nice and shiny - the knobs are looking loads better. I am trying to decide whether to leave the brass raw or get some brass lacquer... i think i prefer to have it wear more without the patchy look lacquer can create

How much do those bridges go for and how hard are they to find?

There ya go!WezV wrote:well i have had my fun with the wonderbar and removed it from the westone to concentrate on getting that back stock....
I think so too. While it's a royal pain in the posterior to have to keep scrubbing the little buggers, I think that ragged "beggar" look is worse.... i think i prefer to have it wear more without the patchy look lacquer can create

Re: Westone thunder 1A with washburn wonderbar + original parts
I want it but overseas shipping would probably kill any chance of me getting this one specifically.

Re: Westone thunder 1A with washburn wonderbar + original parts
well I am trying to establish value at the moment, so any help would be gratefully received (racing ???
)
Here is what i have:

The trem unit is in great condition, Locking nut stripped but kahler one would be included as well. Arm has some wear on underside. all original mounting screws
I have been watching them on ebay and other places as they do appear fairly regularly and prices seem to be anywhere between $100 - $250. The lower end tend to have a blurry photo and be missing the arm or nut, often quite worn
Very few have the original nut, but then mine isnt working anyway. very few have clear photos - i hate that!!!
I would place mine around $180 - 200 based on those others and also the difficulty i would have to find another of this condition
...
i hope that doesnt break any rules, whilst i am obviously interested in selling the trem the post above is intended as a request for useful information rather than a sales pitch. If it does, please feel free to edit or delete as appropriate

Re: Westone thunder 1A with washburn wonderbar + original parts
Yep.
I´d say that a 100 pounds is about it.
The damaged top nut can be repaired.
At least,as mentioned before,that´s what i did.
Not the end of the world if you happen to know someone with a lathe around.

Only just read the topic. I love the concept of that wonderbra, definitely a good find.
Back on the subject of the sticky labels, I must recommend either of these products as a must have...

They both do the same. I use loads of this stuff for removing sticky glue from anything. Once you've tried some you won't want to be without it.
Martin.

OMG Martin,
Is that a typo or was it a deliberate mistake?
I wonder if any of the members from the old forums remember that one?
For those of you who don't know what the heck I am talking about, one of the discussions on the old forums went way off topic and the whole of the conversation revolved around Wonderbra's and Y-fronts!!!!! Ah, happy memories!

It was deliberate I can assure you, I just wondered if anyone would pick up on it.
That Sticky Stuff remover is worth tracking down by the way.
