Re: Westone Thunder I restoration (long & picture heavy!)
At the moment, I could do with a little coolness; it's cyclone season here and that means pretty heavy humidity which to those of you who haven't experienced it, is a little like breathing water and makes you break out in a sweat as soon as you walk out the door!! Uncomfortable when, like me, you are not even roughly used to it!
There are beautiful beaches here, but at this time of the year, you are not allowed to swim at them beacuse of the 1) saltwater crocs, 2) sharks, 3) stingers, which are what the Aussies call box jellyfish and the Irakandji jellyfish which are both small but extremely lethal. Literally.
Still, we'll have our chance at coolness when we hit Europe in March, eh!!!

Back on topic, got my brass knobs in today!

Aren't they absolute jewels? Well as long as they are brand new anyways...

Hey, lookin' dangerously close to original there!
Are these push-fit or set-screw?
Can you get some knurling done to the sides? I'm guessing the smooth sides might cause sweaty fingers to slip, or at least you'd need to grab the cylinder with 2 fingers. Knurling would allow you to roll it with one finger with greater accuracy.

They are set screw with a tiny screw so mounting them was a bit of a pain. Smooth sides, the guy couldn't make them knurled. Yes and i have sweaty paws which could cause problems onstage. But, i don't play in a band anymore, i'm getting old
Breaking News! Just got in the little brother, the black sheep of the family, a Thunder Jet! It doesn't say "meh" when plugged in though! It's a cross over between this Thunder I and my black Spectrum ST. Same pickups, black, neck feels the same, same knobs, short scale though. Post and pics tomorrow!
