1984 Thunder III Bass (eBay UK)
I'm not a bass player but this is a looker - WESTONE THUNDER III (3) ACTIVE ELECTRIC BASS GUITAR
Painted in the lovely Ash Black finish (why wasn't the 6 string guitars finished in this?), according to the seller it was gigged for six years and sports it's fair share of chips and knocks.
A couple of the mini switches have been replaced but other than that it seems original with it's brass knobs all present and correct.
(Gotta love the marketing men at Matsumoku, I was checking out the catalogues for this model and found out the pickups were called Hard puncher 1, and Super Boomer 1, great stuff!
)
Price - £180 Starting Bid

It would be prettier in trans red. Black is the worst.
And this coming from the bass guy here! Give me one with the trans red wings or maybe walnut finish with the cream pickups. The less black the better!
Not to say that it isn't still pretty.

Dunno Warrn, the black and maple looks purty striking to me. The maple/walnut gives it the necessary visual relief.
A gorgeous instrument no matter the colour!

Black exists to hide features. Ugly car? Paint it black, no one will ever be able to tell. Beautiful wood grain? Paint it black to hide it from the world! The transparent red finish is the best Thunder finish to my eyes. You can still see the beautiful woodgrain with less of the brown! Not that I mind brown.
Again though, it's still a beautiful instrument. I just hope it's hiding some disfigured wood instead of something pretty. That's the only good excuse to paint a guitar black. And this is getting a bit off topic, so I'm going to shush before Polly shoos me off.

Gee, that's pretty and I'll bet it's capable of every tone known to man... and dogs!
It would seem a reasonable staring price, too....
