Super Headless Bass

Post  Vintageshred on Thu Oct 15, 2009 2:26 pm

Hello from a newbie!

I'm trying to get hold of a Westone Super Headless Bass, circa '87, to replace the one I foolishly sold in my twenties - as featured in my Avatar (sorry about the clothes, it was the 80's)

Anyone able to help?

Keep watching the auction sites there, man - there's been a few on ebay in the last month or two.... Be prepared to pay a good price though; they're quite well regarded these days!!

Oh, and welcome to the site!

Sorry, can't do anything about 80's fashion! We're all deeply embarrassed by it.

Welcome anyway.

Westone Super Headless

Post  Vintageshred on Fri Oct 16, 2009 8:49 am

Hello everyone and thanks for the welcome!

Yeah, I've seen a couple on Ebay, last one went for nearly £400, I couldn't believe it - especially as I sold my for £80 back in the early 90's :-(

String and battery changing was a pain, but it was a great sounding and extremely playable bass - I had a Thunder 3 as well of course and had always wanted a rail, but never managed to get one.

Somebody ought to take the company back on and produce those instruments again. I know FCN were carrying some models with the Westone logo on, but they were frankly just horrible cheap strat, LP and Bc Rich copies.

The Acoustic amp was a beast - another casualty of the folly of my youth.

The other thing I'm trying to track down (off topic here, sorry) is a Vox Custom 24 Bass - another unsung 80's delight

If you could "make do" with a Thunder III bass, then I have one for sale (it's almost a minter) </shameless advert>

I remember seeing a rail in a 2nd hand shop in Bournemouth about 10 years ago and thinking it was quite interesting. It was only about £100. I should have snapped it up. The value of knowledge (or cost of the lack of knowledge).

On reflection, this post probably doesn't help you at all. Apologies.

No worries, is nice to know I'm not the only person with a weird affection for old Westone gear :-)

Very Happy

Hi there

Wondered if you're still looking for a Super Headless bass? I'm looking to sell my walnut one as, to be honest, I haven't really played it since the early 90s when I moved on to Fenders.

It's all in excellent condition, bar one missing pot, and still plays very nicely. COmes with the original hard case which is in pretty good nick.

As the man says, these sometimes fetch close on £400, but I'd be looking around about £325 I'd say, plus delivery. How's that sound?

Some pics links below.

Cheers!

Ian

Hi Ian, I'd love to - it's almost identical to the one I use to own.

However, I am strapped for cash at the mo - and with the birth of my latest child in March, I can't see my finances changing anytime soon, for something that is really a nostalgia trip for me. Sorry dude.

No worries - I completely understand the kids draining the funds - same here! That's the reason I'm looking to sell this in fact, it's the only way these days to get some money towards a new rig!

All best there
