My "Westone" Guitar.

Post  C_Carling on Sun Jun 14, 2009 12:29 am

Hello there!

I've recently started playing guitar, after not playing guitar since i was 12-14 yrs old!
I wanted to buy an electric guitar, not an acoustic elec one, because i truly like the sound of electrics, and when i was playing, i had a Tiesco DUKE (I think?..Anyone knows that brand?) bought for $40 buks.. had guitar lessons for around 2 years, n when i was around 14 years i stopped playing, since i had other interests..
So.. now i'm 20 yrs, and i lookd at an ad in the paper (Im from Sweden btw), and there was an electic guitar called "Westone" for about $100 bucks.. so i though, why not, im not that good but it would be a cheap hobby if i bought it.. enough said, i did..

Here a pic of my Guitar, wich, accordingly to my intelligence is NOT a true Westone, wich seems to be superb guitars by the way.. if they are original! Razz

Even if it's not a real one, its pretty cheap, probably Korean clone, but that doesnt matter, it plays well (But i dont Razz) and i got it hooked up to a VTB-1 pre-amp into a Juli@ soundcard, ready for recording.. AND of course, i got a normal Amplifier for it..

However.. im not truly satisfied with the sound.. it's probably just those cheap strings wich followed the guitar when i bought it,, but.. maybe i could get a bit better sound with some Gibson strings ($20) or some other brand? (Dont remember the name, but its around $18 bucks!)

My old guitar wich by mistake Crying or Very sad got thrown away when moving to a new apartment..

Thx
/Christian

Hi there, Christian - yep; you're right - that's not a Matsumoku Westone, and probably not a Korean one from the 80s/early 90's either! I've certainly not seen one like it before; does it have anything written on it at all? A good pic of the headstock would be nice, and one of the neck plate - if it's a bolt neck - , too?

That looks like a fine guitar regardless! But it's sad that the Teisco got tossed, those are collectibles. Crying or Very sad

Hi all!

Well, the guitar doesnt have any serial written on it, so i suppose its not a real Westone..
Ill post some pics when i get my phone back!

BTW how much would a Teisco be worth today?? confused Since i bought it for about $40 i guess i would have gotten that money back if they're collectibles.. Haven't really seen that specific model of mine.

Teiscos are mostly valuable for nostalgia, and tend to fall under the same questionable value rules as Westones do... you might get $100 for it, you might get $300, you really never know. But you'd probably have gotten at least $100 for it, if not more. Especially if it worked and was in moderately decent condition.

Yep, Teiscos are definitely in the quirky/ nostalgia bracket What a Face

Quite a few made their way to the UK and were sold as first/ learner guitars. Memory tells me that build-quality was variable and design err... well let's say an acquired taste. They became unfashionable and didn't sell for much.

Things are changing; they're starting to change hands for worthwhile amounts on ebay, especially if in good condition. I think all guitar collectors should concentrate on these and leave uncle Mat's babies for us!!

Who made the "Audition" range of guiatrs for Woolworths? Truely dreadful guitars, with actions that would grace a cheese cutter.

Wow!!! what do you mean.. this Les Paul look alike looks very very nice....what's wrong with it?? Is it too heavy..which is why I never really liked Les Pauls...(in the sense of what I want to do with a guitar...playing) not that a Les Paul isn't killer.. it is.. just not what I'm looking for in a total guitar.. but yes if I found a great deal on EBay yes... I saw a nice 65 Gibson MM reissue and almost bought it!!! Anyways I think the moral is... I need more money for more guitars!!

Although the pickguard looks very Teisco for the one... the headstock is not characteristic of a Tiesco.. looks like a Kay or something else.

I tried to gauge the neck width from the knowing the pickups width.... this looks like a very nice neck... is it just me or is there something about a bound neck that makes it feel and play so much more faster?
