Hey Dan I know this is a very old post but the tuners on your thunder are Wilkinson right?? did they come with the guitar when you bought it or did you fit them
I'm really considering changing my tuners for my Thunder 1 because it pops out of tune too much and it's so bloody annoying. What are the Wilkinson's on your Thunder like? any good? keep in tune? and are they a drop in fit I don't wanna have to go drill any holes in my headstock.. I know the Wilkinson's are a good price
I will of course keep the originals in a safe place if I ever need them.
Cheers

Re: My first Thunder 1, thought you might like it.
Hi Jay.
When I got the guitar the original tuners were long gone, I really didn't want to drill more holes in the back of the headstock, it always looks crap, like it's got woodworm!
I saw these Wilkinson's in AXES'R'US and they are a great fit, I didn't even need to fill and re-drill the original holes. The tuners themselves are excellent. They're a copy of the old Grover Rotomatic's and feel nice and positive to use. Mine are non-locking but if your having tuning problems they do a locking version aswell.
If I'm being honest the alignment between the lugs on the tuners and the screw holes on my guitar was a tiny bit off, but only by 0.5mm at the most. I never had any problems fitting the screws.
I can't promise yours would fit without having to fill and re-drill the screw holes but it's an easy job to sort out if you have to.
Hope this helps.

Re: My first Thunder 1, thought you might like it.
Funny you should mention that. I'm a big fan as you may know, of the Vintage line of guitars designed by Trev Wilkinson hisself; own two of 'em now! Tonight I was waiting in the music studio while my son had his drum lesson, and I picked up a top end Vintage acoustic to play, one I've played before. Before I put it down I flipped it over and looked at the tuners (dunno why). What do I see stamped on them? Grover!! Huh???DuoFuzz wrote:...I saw these Wilkinson's in AXES'R'US and they are a great fit, I didn't even need to fill and re-drill the original holes. The tuners themselves are excellent. Thanks
I will probably go for the Wilkinson tuners... I did have my eye on these Gotoh 301 they look an exact match to the Westones but they are pricey and the chrome ones seem to be out of stock everywhere
cheers

I know the basses used Gotoh style tuners, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch if the guitars did as well.
