Quotations and Pruning!

Post  Pollyanna on Fri May 09, 2008 4:30 am

Hello everybody,

I have noticed recently that quite a few posts are containing quotations in the responses.
There is nothing wrong in that except that sometimes, perhaps quoting the complete reply in
response to a previous post from another member is not necessary, especially if the post is quite long
or contains photographs.

Might I suggest that a bit of careful pruning of the quotation be in order?

For Example:

If you wish to quote a particular point that another member has made, then the rest of the post that is not relevant,
can be deleted.

This in itself is easy enough to do:

When replying to a post,and you wish to quote someone from that topic, go to ‘Quote within reply’, as normal;
from there the text can then be simply edited by deleting the unnecessary bits; just ensure that the beginning and the end of the quotes always contain the appropriate text. For Example:

From there you can then add the remainder of your response as usual.

By reducing the length of the quotes, it makes reading the threads a lot easier, as duplication often causes confusion.

Thanks to everybody here and keep on posting!
