Hondo II,

Post  Westbone on Tue Dec 13, 2011 9:49 pm

Hondo II built by Tokai.
Copy of a Fender Lead II, to the tee.
Sound good, high output singles, 9.23k + 9.16k

Also like to thank Iceman(Steve) for arranging the purchase and shipping from the states, as the seller would not deal with the UK. Thanks Steve. Top man.

Here's link to a pretty good demo.

That's nice Damian

I was chasing a double cut myself at the weekend but it went too high.

Iceman is a good guy but he looks like Ron Jeremy

Good to see the truss rod is working correctly. Neck was not quite Pringles when it got to me. You fellers can take my word for it, that listing was less than forthcoming on some obvious details on that fire engine.

Once again you appear to have the situation well in hand Damian. Glad it finally completed the journey.

The Youtube vid was pretty good, especially the amp of course.

Too bad the knucklehead cound not turn off the A/C and ceiling fan for the 7 - 8 minutes he shot it. Rolling Eyes

Very nice Westbone. I also picked one up about a month ago. Mine is also in great shape. It's all good except those cheap tuners gotta go. Haven't had the chance to replace them yet. Kinda funny, only Hondo would make a copy of one of Fender's least popular models. Glad to see that I'm not the only one into "odd" guitars like this.

Nice ctsrulz, these are great guitars! I actually have one under the Christmas tree right now that i can't wait to open Very Happy . Its the single humbucker version of the Fender Lead instead of the 2 single coils and my 1st white guitar. albino Its my 4th Hondo II Pro and last unless i find some insane deal. I also scored the Hondo II Pro catalog from 80-81 off ebay with info on all of the models they made. Hopefully i can use a friends scanner and post it here. I'm pretty sure those were the only 2 years they were made in Japan.

Roll on xmas hobster.

Someone had already changed the machine heads on this one and left the screws in the redundant holes. Ok with me.

All i want for Christmas is i Fender Lead 1 copy! Finally got one of these, not as clean as Westbones but all original and works great. This thing has pretty cool sound options - the 3 way switch splits both coils so you have a single-humbucker-single option, using both coils in the humbucker for splitting so there are 2 single coil options instead of one. Very cool and not at all common. The other switch is a phase which only works in the center position ( full humbucker). Sounds clean as a bell and plays beautifully.

Frets are in excellent shape!

Still has the original tuners but they are working well so i'm keepin em until otherwise.

The Fender Leads seriers were made from 79 - 82 to modernize the strat and compete with Gibson in the hard rock market. The Tokai copies were made in 80 - 81 so Leads were probably pretty popular back then. They also did strat, telecaster and p bass copies.
