Well, that's the thing you see, it doesn't really sound like a classic Tele at all, at least to my ears. It has echoes of the Tele but it lacks that "chime" that you'd expect. By contrast, my Vintage brand Tele clone (Wilkinson) does have that sound...pretty much bang on too:

The Squire's P90-2's do deliver a decent range of tones though, and they can fair roar when pushed. If you can fault them at all I guess they could be cleaner/brighter a lower levels. The only major complaints I have are the cheap machine heads, the plastic nut, and the sharp fret ends. Bloody thing keeps going out of tune, so I'm replacing the tuners with a set of GFS mini-Gotoh's, and a low friction polycarbonate nut. Already took a file to the frets so that's taken care of.

Overall this is decent little axe for very little money, as long as you're willing to fiddle a little it to make it all that it can be. And I do love the look of it!

pig Is it me or is that one of the most cheap put down phrases?

My understanding of the phrase is found here in the first definition...

http://m.urbandictionary.com/#define?term=red%20headed%20stepchild

I meant to infer an idea of total disregard in attitude when you work out that new guit of yours grogg.

Is there a different meaning that it holds for you? If I have offended you or anyone else with the use of it I then would like to apologize.

To my sensibilities all put downs are cheap... I see no value or point in putting lipstick on a pig, if you take my meaning there.

Bought it new 4 years ago. Never gigged. It's actually the guitar that started the last upsurge of GAS which resulted in my going on an Holy Quest for Mats and other "interesting" guitars. When I started in 2007, I had 5 guitars...the above mentioned Squier makes 26! What a Face
The GAS continues. (urp! 'Scusie) Twisted Evil

And Ice? That's the way you do barrel saddles!
