1983 Concord H-III - (AKA that "Orange Sparkly Thing")

I have to apologise that I sneaked in a few non-Westones to this post too, but one is, like Westones also a Matsumoko (the fretless - even though it looks like a fretted - bass is a 1981 Westbury) and I had to include the Gibsons in case they got jealous.

Cheeky boy! Laughing Twisted Evil Laughing

Nice collection John, that sparkly one looks really nice though! Very Happy Gosh, I wish that I'd had the money to buy it! Crying or Very sad

(I love that Melody Maker and your piano as well!)
Like a Star @ heaven

Now, you know what you have to do - you have to buy loads more Westones otherwise the Concord will start to feel left out!

Well done mate, nice catch!

Gee, that's nice!! If those h/b's are MMK 45's she'll have a ton of poke, too!! That IS a nice wee Gibbo collection; I like the fact that they're all single p'up models! Did it take you long to gather them together?! What age is the Westbury, and you know there is a Matsumoku site...

...? Laughing I'm sure you do but I like to be sure of these things!!

Well, do we have another Westone convert, or like me, a Matt zealot and any Matt will do!!?? Laughing

Hi Corsair

The PUPs on the Concord are Hammer I, Super II, Hammer I, which means nothing to me but the humbuckers are powerful – I can’t say if they are more powerful than the 45s you mention. Thanks due here to the Westone Info site 1983 catalogue for the info.

The fretless Matsumoku Westbury bass is probably the highest quality guitar I have - it is a 1981 and is a tone monster with a Di Marzio split humbucker that will annihilate any Fender. It weighs 5kg, which is about 1.2kg heavier than a standard Precision, and even more heavier than a Jazz. It cost me £82 from Ebay – unbelievable. There is another (fretted) Westbury available in the US under this Ebay ref number. Well worth it even at the 500US the seller is asking.

Also there is a blue Westbury guitar on Ebay in the US that I imagine will be a Strat killer under this Ebay ref:

The Gibsons!

The 1974 SG1 with mini humbucker on the left was my second guitar (after a Les Paul copy) bought in 1976 for 100GBP second hand from a gambling addicted friend – my workhorse since then. It was originally deep cherry red but has faded to brown.

The middle double cut Melody Maker is a 1963 and cost 450GBP from Ebay last year, with a lovely wide neck and a single coil.

The right Melody Maker is a 2003 (40 years younger than the middle!) was 280GBP from Ebay and has a P90, which is really why I bought it.

All of these have great sound, if similar to each other, but each is limited to only 2 tones – tone up or tone down. They are really all rock and roll guitars, not country, not metal, not even blues, although the P90 can do it at a pinch. So the Concord H III, with 18 sound configurations, is about 3 times more versatile than my entire Gibson collection put together!

Now, should I really go for a Telecaster for that Wilko Johnston. / Status Quo rasp that is all I’m missing now!!!??? Or maybe there is a Westone that would do the job for less of the hard-earned?

,,,Oh, yes, brother - there is; the Clippers!

http://www.westone.info/clipper2.html

...go get 'em!! Laughing I've got the 4112 and it is exactly as it looks, a super Telecaster with all the Tele sounds but that said, I'll just bet you can get the Tele squawk out of that Concord, eh! I know I can get it - sort of! - out of my Spectrum GT, ST and Genesis II!!

The Hammer I pups were MMK 45's, so you've got the good stuff!
