need a 5 string x790pw to go with that x390pw?.....anyone??

Post  Iceman on Mon Mar 28, 2011 10:16 pm

Didn't go at $685.00 BIN and re-listed right away.

http://cgi.ebay.com/1986-WESTONE-PANTERA-5-STRING-ACTIVE-BASS-/220760927930?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3366606eba

Seller says only 60 ever made. Retorts or challenges anyone??

Just found this is his 4th listing (3 day auctions) in the last 2 weeks or so. Started at $799.00 BIN and now his starting bid is $529.00. What is reasonable to offer on this?

Honestly, if it is in good shape, then any of his prices are reasonable. But of course you always want to try and get a bargain.

So is his claim of only 60 made factual or have any basis for being believable?

Argh, I hate being a contractor. The economy is screwing me out of so many gorgeous instruments!

I think it is hard to find out how many of these were made. I do remember a posting here of an Alverez Pantera bass (Westone got folded into Alvarez) where the poster stated Tom Presley of SLM told him 60 of those were made - but that is of the Alvarez sort. So maybe coincedence that there are 60 Westone labeled and 60 Alvarez??
There is little that I can find on numbers of a lot of these old guitars...mostly heresay. With the Pantera guitar numbers, I think we all go by Mr Presley's posts on here, but outside of that I imagine it is just a guessing game. That being said, I have seen a few 5 string Pantera basses on ebay from time to time, but it wouldn't suprise me if they really only produced 60 5 strings - and more of the 4 strings.

I'd email the seller and ask where he got the info from - maybe he's got a source that could be helpful to the rest of us.

Hey Warn, i'm a general contractor out here in Oregon although i mostly do painting. Times are tough for sure! I've sold a few old guitars to buy new ones, thats how i do it anyway! Very Happy I lived in Crystal River for a couple of years in the late 90's, kinda close to your neck of the woods.

His reply to me was "we found it on the internet".

He also said if it did not sell this time ( and it did not) he would probably keep it or give it to a grand kid. Looks like some younster has a generous grandparent.

Barron: Not sure I'd want to sell it to the kind of person who'd want to buy. pale
Hobster: I do a bunch of light construction and odd jobs, no job is the same lately. But I've had no regular work all year so man it's been rough! As for selling other guitars... no way man. Not happening. What's mine is mine until I die or pass it down. Very Happy
