Spectrum MX

Post  hoax on Tue Feb 15, 2011 10:00 pm

I bought this the other day because it was cheap and it was local. I was not going to keep it as I didn't really think I liked them. It is the painted finger board that I was prejudiced against

When I got it, it was dirty, neglected, had some dings and the middle pickup was goosed.

I cleaned it up, drop filled it and used the pickup coil from a Sunn Mustang and the pole pieces, magnet and housing from the Spectrum to give an 8.5k ohms middle pickup.

I have now decided to like it and I am going to keep it.

Yeah Corair and Caucajun - It's a really nice player with a good variety of sounds, mostly Strat but almost verging on a telecaster when using coiltap on the bridge pickup.

It's a bit too blue, a bit too painted, and lacking in proper fret markers - but it's OK and I am going to keep it for now.

I don't care for the painted fretboards either but, hey! it's a Spectrum fer Pete's sake!
You just cannot go wrong with a Spec!
I do love the blue body finish though. Don't have that colour...yet. Twisted Evil

Caucajun I'd take yours off your hands if I had the money or if I was willing to trade anything. Unfortunately, I'm broke and I love what I've got. I'll let you know when I've got enough to spare, if that day ever comes! Laughing
