Trevor Rabins and Panteras!!

Post  nasticanasta on Sun Feb 21, 2010 1:23 am

Here are 2 of my favourite guitars the first is a Red Trevor Rabin Signature Series III I swapped out the pickups for EMG's 85/SA/SA, I love the neck on this is wide and very thin.. it's very fast and the tremolo is a dream! its called a TRS-1, I've seen this trem on other westones there's one at a local Music-Go-Round near me it's a Villian Std there's a picture of one below, I had never seen one of these before I went to check it out... its got a real nice neck on it very much like the TRS I have but its a 22 fret. The second guitar I posted here was a Black Pantera X-275 with the same EMG setup and I swapped out the bendmaster deluxe for a Kahler Floyd Rose locking system, the Pantera has a thicker neck just as wide though but this guitar is at least 1 pound heavier at least and it has a deeper sound good sustain too.

Believe it or not that Villian was originally advertised as a Pantera X300. I emailed the store and informed them of their error, and they changed the listing the next day, very nice girl that works there. Here is the link...

Looks to be in good shape except the one big ding on the front, any other defects that you noticed since you had it in hand?

lol wow really? you sound like me!!! I continually point out discrepancies on Ebay.. To be honest I didn't even notice the ding...I usually if interested in a guitar in a shop first... pick it up, I rest my picking hand over the top of the strings near the bridge or where I usually pick or "strum"...next I run my hand up and down the neck I feel it literaly "testing it" for anything that might "bug" me.. come on guys you know what I mean.. it could be so minuscule that no one might notice it but you... I will leave it at that lest I be taken to that nice padded room where the men in nice white clothes come to take me away away!!.. opps sorry... I got carried away there.... as I was saying, next I do a few runs........ I check the curvature of the neck by fretting the 1st fret and the fret that connects to the body and test its action.. I look for twisting of the neck by looking down the neck from bridge to nut yadda yadda yadda.. If I bored you You know what to do..if not... contact me fast. Anyways I am glad you did tell them....I would have done the same had I known what it was.... again very nice guitar.... neck was fast like my TRS III exact same trem as the TRS too!! I also like the headstock on it.. exactly like my TRS too... I also like the script "Westone" I'd buy it for the trem alone!! Alas I cannot justify buying it at this time, I would if I could just to have.. I can't collect guitars.... I'm not rich

If I was collecting Westones or these specific guitars.. or just collected nice guitars I liked, I would buy this just cause I know how the neck and trem feels regardless of the 22 frets which held me back from buying it... I just can't justify buying this if it's not for a specific purpose like if I wanted a nice old Tele for a "twang" for me it would offer nothing.. to a collector or someone who doesn't care about how many frets it has.. they would love this.. and again if I had the cash.. it would be mine already...so buy it already!!! ;-P

Well apparently I can justify it.. I'm am starting up a new band and I needed a non-trem guitar so I could do some different tunings... picked up this nice lil cheap Gibson/Baldwin Les Paul type guitar..tossed in a Seymour Duncan and a Leo Quan bridge and this thing is perfect for that garage sound I'm going for. Not bad for $100

And here's the finished product! matching Dimarzio PAF Pros new TRC a "screwless" pickguard, and new Grover 135 series tuners, this thing feels like a Les Paul!
