It does not have either the MMK humbucker or the late UBC but according to Thorn, the 1st attempt at the UBC design which isn't a very good p'up; I don't have an amp so I am unable to sound check it myself, but Thorn has never steered me crook so far so I'm inclined to take his word for it!!

Here are 2 of my favourite guitars the first is a Red Trevor Rabin Signature Series III I swapped out the pickups for EMG's 85/SA/SA, I love the neck on this is wide and very thin.. it's very fast and the tremolo is a dream! its called a TRS-1, I've seen this trem on other westones there's one at a local Music-Go-Round near me it's a Villian Std there's a picture of one below, I had never seen one of these before I went to check it out... its got a real nice neck on it very much like the TRS ...

Got in this Thunder I today. It was to dirty to touch but the most important thing, the fretwork, was OK. Bought it unseen via the web. It came in the original Westone case which is still too dirty to touch, i'll photograph it later. This is the result of an entire afternoon of spit & polish. While i could have been sitting in the sun all afternoon!

It's 100% original as you can see, genuine MMK45's. I replaced a few worn and rusty screws ...

Arrived this week: Concord 1.

Logo is partly gone alas. Maybe it can be ordered somewhere?

It's an '82, second version.

"Open" type tuners, took them apart and lubed them.

No simple bushes at the back but the Thunder-style piece of metal.

Volume and tone knobs are not original but they have a cool 60's vibe.

Originally an entry level model, i really like this Concord. It arrived with 009 strings on it, with the 24 inch scale it felt ...

Good News: I'm working on obtaining this nice red burst Spectrum!

Bad News: I'm having trouble ID'ing it. The serial makes it an '84 but I can't figure out exactly what it is based on the .INFO site.

All I have are the seller's pictures:

There is no model name or number on the headstock, just the logo.

It has elements of the '84 Spectrum III--but it has a 3-way switch, not a 5-way, and red-burst finish is not mentioned in the cat.

The switching and PUPS look very much like an FX ...

No offense, but the padauk has to be one of the ugliest guitars ever made.

That said...

Took it home and ripped it apart.

Neck was shimmed somewhere along the line and we can´t very well have that...

Then i pulled a fretjob in short order, tightened the tuners, reset the nut asf asf.

Pups are of course a pair of MMK45.

Now...the point is that what came out the other end wasn´t by any means half bad...have to say..

I have not had this guitar from new, but it has been in storage for a good 20 years (see other posts of mine) and as far as I know, there has not been any 'fugging around' with it. Chances are it is original, but no guarantees. If anyone has any comments or advice, feel free to offer it. The guitar works wonderfully for me, currently.

Picked it up comparatively cheaply (for less than half what they normally go for), possibly because the seller said only one pickup was working. Both were working when I got it, but one kept cutting out when both were on - just needed a little clean of the pickup switch contacts. There was a fault the seller didn't mention - the PEQ tone controls weren't working. Someone had rewired them so they worked as a normal tone control ...

I saw this last week for a very low price and could not resist...

It's a lefty, missing the original knobs and the pick up was upgraded to an active EMG that sounds amazing...

The bass was always used as a right hand bass but the seller put it back lefty to sell... I am looking for a westone pup but I am quite pleased with the current sound... So if anyone has one for sale!...

Here are the pics, Oh, it came with the lefty OHSC also...

I don’t really like pointy headstock's but I had my eye on this Spectrum series II bass in a pawn shop for a while and ended up buying it it for the following reasons:

To satisfy my curiosity about the build quality of later Korean made Westone guitars compared to early Westones... it’s active and has a 2 magnabass pickup setup and best of all it was a bargain.

I now know that this is a SPB311 the highest in the Spectrum series II line. it has no serial number but I believe it's from 1988.

I am extra excited about the FX..

mainly because of this

Anyway, it plays great.. I still need to clean it and restring it. there also seems to be a bit of a bad connection in the wiring for the bridge pu, which i will fix later.

Here's one with the concord..

No sure what's up with the stickers and pinstripes.. is it random or a reference to something?

Either way, ...

I was a bit hesitant about looking at this one since it is a 3 pup/strat type design which I'm usually not fond of. But once I saw her, that changed quickly. Overall she has a striking resemblance to a Spectrum ...

I finally got around to taking some pics of my recent acquisitions:

Firstly my Westone Thunder 1T bought on eBay 2 months ago for £37.70. I travelled 200 miles round trip to collect it, not knowing what it was like, then spent £50 with my local man for a clean, set up, new strings, new up selector, a little electrical work and a whammy bar he had lying around that fitted. It is a diamond.

The TNT delivery guy knows me by the name already

Just got in this Ferrari red Spectrum ST. Cleaned it up a bit. Good condition for the age, decent fretwork.

Electronics were a mess. I had to replace the 3 way switch. The coil tap switch was not working as you can see.

Separate coil tap switch - original or not?

The pole pieces of the humbuckers are different from my black '86 ST. That guitar sounds more full-bodied amplified although the red one sounds good acoustically. ...

When I got my Westone headless bass, a friend and fellow bass player was so impressed with it compared to his P Bass, he started scouring the country for one. These pics were taken on the day that he finally found one and brought it over to my place to show me.

And here's something REALLY scary! This was taken at a gig at the Duchess of York in Leeds around 23 years ago!

Got this Thunder 1A project guitar in last Saturday. Body, neck, bridge base plate with just 2 saddles, original tuners, neck plate and screws. That's it. I have a big bag full of parts so this will be a ,hopefully fun, low budget project. I'm thinking of sanding down the scarred body and back of the neck and finishing it with Danish oil. The finished guitar will probably be sold again as i'm right handed! More to follow!

Thunder 1A Bass 1986 version

I think I struck gold with this beauty. I didn't have to do much with it, looks like it's spent most of it's life in a case. There is barely a mark on it

I just gave the frets a good going over because they had turned green!!

I can't decide on the colour??? Candy Apple red, Fire Red, Purple Red???? I just don't know, It seems to change colour in different light
